Last week’s South Park’s episode “You have 0 Friends” was about Facebook and the complications behind it. One of the complications is Farmville.
It’s been about 2 months since I joined Farmville. I joined as a birthday present for my friend. She wanted an extra farm hand to help her fertilize crops.
I’ve heard of this game before and how people get addicted. I was curious. As of now, I have 18 neighbors, 22 trees, 50 animals (14 chickens, 4 cows, 4 horses, 1 brown foal, 3 sheep, 2 shamrock sheep (in honor of St.Patrick’s Day), 4 pigs, 4 ossabaw pigs (they look dirtier), 2 brown calves, 3 spotted calves, 2 green calves (St.Patty’s treat again), 3 ducks, 2 geese, 1 saanen goat and 1 regular goat) and one hot air balloon with a black sheep inside.
So far, I have harvested 90 vegetables and 191 fruits. Fertilized 339 crops. But who’s counting?
I am level 19, aka Professional Plower, which means I am able to grow grapes, buy cottages, and have sex with the goats.
Now, I’m not extra addicted here. Sure I go check my farm almost everyday, but that’s because I have nothing to do. I also check my mailbox and the weather everyday.
The difference between Farmer Angel and Farmer Sally is I don’t really advertise. I don’t post it on my Facebook wall to share with my Farmville enthusiasts. I will never tell you if I find any secret mystery eggs or tell you that a baby calf is lost and you should adopt it or tell you to celebrate with me because I just earned the Crop Whisperer red ribbon. And if I need someone to fertilize my crops or give me a wooden board for my horse stable, I would still never tell you. NEVER.
I follow about 3 Facebook friends who play and post religiously. Whatever time of day, I can always rely on these 3 to have a bonus or an extra pig for me to take. I take but I don’t share back. I do accept my gifts and I give gifts back… but they are done in secret. I love mystery gift boxes by the way. If you were to give a gift, it should be that. Will it be a red hay bale or a flag that says Farmville on it? Who knows? It’s a mystery! Fun!
I don’t plan on expanding my farm. I am going to stay with my 41 plots of plowed land. I’m beginning to get too lazy to seed and harvest… too many clicks! I know there’s a helping farm hand and all those tractors that only requires one click… but hell, those costs moola. Moola I don’t have (I keep buying grain silos so I can gain those 200 points and then sell it back). I do the most minimal farm work as possible.
I enjoy Farmville because to me it’s all about taking free things from random people, receiving ribbons and leveling up. My goal is to be at level 45 but still have the smallest farmland possible.
I guess this isn’t about Farmville at all. It’s about how far Angel will get in life… not far at all.
