The story I told is about high school. My high school friends are unaware of this (or at least I think.) I still look back and feel embarrassed but it’s what made me who I am today. I hope this reaches out to all the social anxiety ridden, quiet and shy, mumbling weirdos out there!
“Talk to yourself. I am definitely not a social being. I think to myself way more than I talk to my significant other. I have a constant inner monologue going on. I’m not scared to be alone and listen to my own thoughts. Listen to yourself, you’re more interesting than you think you are. “

The New York Empire Comedy Arts Festival: Sketch Block
The New York Empire Comedy Arts Festival brings comedic acts from across several disciplines together for one week in June to celebrate the variety and diversity of comedy. From June 25th through June 30th, audiences can experience the best and most cutting edge improv, musical, sketch, stand-up, storytelling, and clowning acts that New York, LA, and Montreal have to offer. The NYECAF is the place to see the best in boundary pushing comedy.
Special Presentation on Sketch Block Wednesday w/ Adam Lash, Jenn Dodd, Angel Yau, Squirm & Germ, and Pirate Sugar
Sketch Block is a two hour with intermission comedy showcase of the best sketch troupes in NYC. It’s also a show that gives opportunity to for new troupes trying to break into the comedy scene & old troupes that have gotten lost in the club circuit. SB is now working with sketch writing students, by giving them a chance to put up their material in front of a live audience.
Jenn Dodd is a character actress and comedian who loves to poke fun at mankind’s ridiculous social behaviors. Her character work focuses primarily on the wonderfully bizarre nature of every day people. Ranging from a sweet Southern mom to an angst ridden emo teenager, Jenn is an entire sketch comedy group in one.
Angel Yau is a NYC based sketch comedian, storyteller and filmmaker. She started her comedy career unintentionally when she ran for a high school election. She wanted to be different and stand out so she sang a song with her guitar… even though she can’t sing or play guitar. Her performances were apart of the Philly Sketchfest, Calgary Funnyfest, the North Carolina Comedy Arts Festival, the Seattle Sketchfest and the NYC Underground Comedy Festival, among others. She is currently on the Upright Citizens Brigade Beta Team SCRAPS. Don’t let those credentials fool you though; she is still a very shy girl who will awkwardly ask if you want a piece of gum.
Devouring the mic and blurring the lines between music and comedy, Squirm and Germ (Tim Girrbach and Rodney Umble) use the architecture of the rap game to ignite a raucous and hilarious party!
Pirate Sugar is 8 feisty fearless ladies that constantly wreak havoc in NYC with their sharp-edged swash-buckling sketch comedy. Pirate Sugar wildly comments on everything from the classics to pop culture, relationships to flatulence. Men, women, and everyone in between will agree that Pirate Sugar is a raucous good time!
